Happy Birthday, America! July 3, 2008

The Boeing IDS (Integrated Defense System) CEO & President, Jim Albaugh, sent the following out to employees this week . . . good, good stuff!

‘Since the nation’s founding fathers set out the principles and ideals that would shape the history of the United States, America has been known for its risk-takers and dreamers, inventors and explorers, hard workers and achievers, rebels and patriots. Over the years, it has become home to one of the world’s most diverse populations, with people of many different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. One thing shared by all, however, is each individual’s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness – enshrined in the nation’s Constitution.

This Friday, we’ll celebrate Independence Day in the U.S. and recall those leaders who more than 230 years ago established the foundation that has made this country great. As you enjoy the long holiday weekend with family and friends, please also remember the servicemen and servicewomen who continue the tradition of protecting our freedom and independence every day. Have a great weekend . . . JIM’

Creation February 2, 2008

(I received this in an email-chain. Just sharing for laughs . . . )

In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth and populated the Earth with broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives. Then using God’s great gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, “You want chocolate with that?” And Man said, “Yes!” and Woman said, “and as long as you’re at it, add some sprinkles.” And they gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled. And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and sugar from the cane and combined them. And Woman went from size 6 to size 14. So God said, “Try my fresh green salad.” And Satan presented Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast. God then said, “I have sent you heart healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them.” And Satan brought forth deep fried fish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained more weight and his cholesterol went through the roof. God then created a light, fluffy white cake, named it “Angel Food Cake,” and said, “It is good.” Satan then created chocolate cake and named it “Devil’s Food.” God then brought forth running shoes so that His children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained pounds. Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man gained pounds. God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonald’s and its 99-cent double cheeseburger. Then said, “You want fries with that?” And Man replied, “Yes! And super size them!” And Satan said, “It is good.” And Man went into cardiac arrest. God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery. Then Satan created HMOs.

Guest Blog – Kelly Linn Hefner Shinn January 23, 2008

Today I thought we’d have a guest blog for a change . . . . AN ABUNDANT LIFE

To many, Christianity is something to be endured in anticipation of heaven. As Christians, we have three main committments in our lives:

  • to God – 100%
  • to other Christians
  • to others

We need to be happy and strong, for happiness and strength are infectious. Others will pick up our moods and spirit. As Peter says, we should be loving and kind toward everyone – ‘And now this word to all of you: You should be like one big, happy family, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds.’ (I Peter 3:8)

We need to turn to God and let Him live within us and be effective Christians. ‘Our lives may be the only Bible anyone ever reads.’ Show your love for Christ and let it shine within you. ‘You are the world’s light – a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light: Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

Our Lord has called us to live a life of fruitfulness in terms of introducing others to Him. The opportunity for presenting the claims of Christ is greater today than ever before. Love means to give ‘For God loved the world so much the He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ (John 3:16) We must not let our pride get in the way. There are so many people who need to be reached out to. Serve to serve others, not ourselves.

Any thoughts . . . ???
