My Medical Student August 14, 2008

We attended a dinner last night for first year medical students – part of Gerardo’s orientation activities.  There was a raffle with several prizes.  We watched as they called others’ numbers and made jokes about our not winning.  Then the last number was called – Gerardo’s!  And look what he won!

Yup, that’s right.  He won a real skull!!!  Only a medical student would be pumped about that.  Oh, here we go . . . :)

Perfect Timing! July 22, 2008

Filed under: Family, Today — libbymyrin @ 8:02 pm

Did you know God’s timing is perfect!?!? ;)

I pray you all know deep down how true that statement is, but I also love how we find such amazement, joy, and peace each time we get to experience it!

Gerardo’s whole medical school process has such been a testament to this!  Despite the stress, uncertainty, hesitation, questioning, planning, etc., that went into the six month process, not to mention the few years leading up to this point, the revealing of God’s perfect plan couldn’t have been better!  We are truly blessed!!!  God is good!

Tell me about His perfect timing in your life!

New Season July 9, 2008

Gerardo and I are entering into a new season . . . and just like this past one. it will be wonderful, challenging, exciting, painful at times, filled with joy, and most importantly, from Him and full of blessings!

What’s changed?  Med School.  Boeing. Weekends. Evenings. Time. Friends.
What’s the same?  Love. Faith. Values. Family. Relationships. Home. Pups. God @ work!
Am I looking forward to it?  Definitely!
Am I anxious?  Of course!
Do I know what’s ahead?  Nope!
What do I know?  God’s got it! His plan is perfect!  He’ll be with us the entire time!

What A Day! June 24, 2008

Filed under: Family — libbymyrin @ 8:07 am

So yesterday (June 23rd) was quite a day!  Not only was it my monthiversary at Boeing and my incredible father’s birthday, but it also included my mother-in-law’s first visit to and meal at our home!

Now I’m guessing that most of you wives realize the significance of this event. As I phrased it to Gerardo, this is when his mother gets to experience how her daughter-in-law is taking good care of her baby boy. :)

Don’t get me wrong, Araceli (G’s mom) and I have a wonderful relationship, and she has always shown me love and support. But last night was still a big deal to me!

I found out about the visit when I got home from work yesterday because Araceli was coming to the city to pick up Sophia (G’s little sister) and her friend at the airport. (Sophia’s friend’s mom was with Araceli too.) Gerardo and I tag-teamed cleaning the house and fixing dinner. We enjoyed all prep. By the grace of God, our home was in pretty good shape, and I actually had all the food we’d need already at the house.

I’ve gradually been learning how to fix somewhat authentic Mexican food, and I think this meal went over pretty well.  (Amanda, I used cilantro and lime slices to accent some of the fixins. :) )  I wish my cream of corn had had less cream and more corn but oh well!  (By the way, I never would have guessed that I would have been super excited to find a really good Mexican grocery store!)  Did I menation that Araceli is an amazing cook and even owned and operated a Mexican restaurant for a bit? No pressure! :)

It was a great visit and so fun to host and spend time with them all!  Whew!!!! I think I passed . . . :)

Update on Life May 27, 2008

Filed under: Family — libbymyrin @ 8:49 pm

Thought I’d share what’s going on with the Myrins.  We had a great holiday weekend getting away to Wichita Falls to join in a wedding celebration with close friends and also celebrate our two year anniversary.  Getting away is always nice, and we definitely enjoyed the time together.  Memorial Day was spent running errands and doing yard work but no complaints from us – it was a fun day.  Oer the weekend we also got to hang out with our old LifeGroup and both our current ones.

My new job is going well.  I’ve got lots of training to do, but everyone I work with is cool and fun.  I also really enjoy leaving at 4:00 and not bringing any ‘work’ home.  Gerardo’s enjoying his job as well. They are giving him more and more responsibilities.  Oh, and the pups are doing well too! :)

With this job change and different schedule, I’m also enjoying the freedom from the internet.  I’m not supposed to check my personal email at work, which actually is kinda nice.  I get online at home probably once a day but not for long.  I, of course, still plan to blog and such.  It just probably won’t be as frequently.  It’s all about quality not quantity though. :)

Love you all!!!

His/Our Latest Passion May 20, 2008

Filed under: Family — libbymyrin @ 7:09 am

One of the many things I love about my husband is how passionate he can be.  What makes life so fun and interesting is that with each passion, he puts tons of thought and energy towards it.  Then after a few weeks or so, another passion comes along to replace it.  My role is typically to assist, encourage, listen to his ideas, and make sure he doesn’t spend much money on the passion.  His variety of passions include hunting, trees, port (the beverage), grass/weeds, wine cellars, etc.

His (Our) latest passion is planting – flowers, seeds, bushes, and trees.  This has been a fun one because we’ve gotten to do a lot of it together.  And our poor flowerbeds have just been screaming for some TLC.  This is our first planting effort, and we’re your typically ‘young & naive’ ones that get excited about it all.  And have also managed to not have to pay for any plants; we’ve just received hand-me-downs from our parents or are using what was planted before us.  We get to be creative.

I knew you all would want to see pics. :)   I also wanted to show our work before supposedly our pansies die this week from the heat. (booo)  Click to enlarge the pics.
