“We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh.” – Friedrich Neitzsche
John 15:1-8
1″I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5″I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
This passage makes me think about why God makes such bold promises to us. Jesus knows that if we remain in union with Him AND we allow his WORDS to penetrate our lives – we will KNOW HIS WILL and our prayers will then reflect His will. Our prayers will be answered, because they line up with what God wants for us!
It sounds so simple, yet sometimes it is hard to fit God into my life each and every day, without fail by spending quiet time reading God’s word. One of my 2008 objectives is to fulfill this goal. I have heard the suggestion to ask Jesus to not allow you to turn off the light and go to bed without reading the bible each day, either in the mornings, during a lunch break, in the evenings after kids are in bed, etc. Because of asking Jesus to help, He gives you the energy to open His word. That’s all it takes-once you open the Bible, God teaches you something you really need to know.
