God has been revealing to me some important points about worldly thinking and eternal thinking, and I thought I’d share . . .
First, we’ve often heard self-awareness is a key aspect of being successful and excelling. I could honestly say I have taken this to the extreme and have tried to ‘figure out’ my personality, my strengths, my weaknesses, my challenges, etc. I have examined myself with a magnifying glass and found several, several areas that I believe need improvement. But why? Honestly, that’s not a very healthy approach of self-awareness. But that’s how the world tells us to approach it. We see the world’s standards of everything all the time – wealth, success, fame, appearance, love, etc. And we use them as benchmarks of where we strive to be. To me that leads to a lot of disappointment.
But what does He think? God is showing me that I should be more God-aware of myself. What standards does He have for me? What does He desire for me or consider success? When I view myself as God sees me, there’s a whole new sense of awareness. One of support, encouragement, forgiveness, unconditional love, extreme passion, peace, eternal joy. He honestly doesn’t care how much I make, what style of clothes I wear, how productive I was today. He values how I used the blessings He’s put in my life. But when the day is done, I’m still lovely in His eyes.
Thoughts?
It is amazing how we grow up and develop ourselves on what I now see as the wrong ideas of what the world thinks. Our society today is a replica of the mindset that we must have the items of this world to be someone of importance in society. We want nice jobs where we make lots of money, pretty houses, cool cars, ect. but what we need is to live the life that God has put before us and live for him and through his love.
It seems so easy to say but so hard to keep from getting caught up in keeping up!
Libby – Thanks for the great post this morning. As I sit here I was thinking not only about your post but also the, mud it in – lifebloggers!
Here is something I found when investigating the book of James.
“Wealth, power, and status mean nothing to God but the world attributes much importance to them and honors those that have them. If your wealth, power, and status were gone, what would you have left? You would have what is in your heart and that, not your bank account, and that is what matters to God and endures for eternity.”
